Fisher to miss 6 to 8 weeks

Carlton forward Brad Fisher will miss the start of the home and away season after breaking the base of his thumb in Saturday nights match against Port Adelaide. Fisher had a pin inserted to the base of his thumb this afternoon which will keep him on the sidelines for six to eight weeks. Fisher will join the likes of Cain Ackland, Clinton Benjamin, Adam Bentick, Chris Judd and Andrew Walker on the injury list at Carlton. [Read more]

Malceski expected to miss season

Sydney midfielder Nick Malceski could miss the 2008 home and away season after he injured his knee during the third quarter of todays 2 point loss against Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium. The 23-year-old will have scans tomorrow which are expected to confirm a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The devistating injury occurred when Malceski turned to avoid a tackle with his right knee buckling under the weight and pressure. Once the scans confirm the injury Malceski it’s expected he will have a full knee reconstruction. [Read more]

Bombers beat Brisbane on the Gold Coast

Keeping the NAB Cup tradition of fielding young sides it was Essendons youngsters who stood up to win convincingly against the Lions at Gold coast Stadium. Matthew Knights joined Carlton coach Brett Ratten today with both coaches winning their first games as head AFL coaches. The Bombers stole the lead from Brisbane early in the first quarter and never looked back, the final scores being 2.11.16 (100) to 2.8.7 (73). [Read more]

Ratten posts his first win

Brett Ratten has coached his first ever victory as the head coach of Carlton. The young blues side came out on top winning by 15 points against last year’s grand finalists Port Adelaide. The lead changed a total of 5 times over the duration of the match but a third quarter slump by Port gave Carlton a handy lead which they couldn’t pull back, the final scores being 1.13.13 (100) to 0.12.13 (85). Two New Clubs by 2012

Just months after North Melbourne’s decision to stay in Melbourne and decline the AFL’s proposal to move to the Gold Coast, AFL chairman Mike Fitzpatrick today revealed the league’s plans to have two new teams by 2012. This would see a team on the Gold Coast and another in Western Sydney to make a 18 team competition. Fitzpatrick conceeded that with their attempt to move the Kangaroos failing, it was unlikely that any Melbourne based teams would want to move. [Read more]
