REB’s Rubbish: Round 4

April 10, 2008

So after three rounds what have we learn’t this season? The Cats, while not firing on all cylinders are atop the ladder and it is the Hawks as expected and the Bullies perhaps unexpectedly leading the challengers. Collingwood, Adelaide and Sydney remain strong and the Saints are about the place without dominating. North, Brisbane, Essendon and Port have played some reasonable footy at times with mixed results and Melbourne, Richmond and Carlton remain basket cases. For me the big surprise is West Coast. I didn’t dare to believe that our nemesis from the West could be so toothless. With Cox on one foot and Ashley Hansen leading the ‘hide and seek’ medal voting so far this season they look decidedly suspect. In 1979 Kiss’ Dynasty album stayed in the charts for well over 52 weeks and this has in fact outlasted the Eagles dynasty. Shame that. [Read more]

Footywrap: Round 3

April 6, 2008

This weeks Footywrap takes place on Blue Sunday at the MCG. Jeff and Paul donned the blue ponchos to support prostate cancer awareness and check out the Richmond Collingwood clash. There were plenty of thrills and spills in round 3. Kreuzer’s long awaited debut didn’t disappoint, he looked brilliant for the Blues (although they did lose to the Bombers.) Justin Koschitzke wasn’t quite as impressive. His high five landed in Nick Riewoldt’s eye! Also discussed is a bizarre incident in which Robert Harvey appears to give Jason Akermanis the ‘Squirrel grip.’ [Read more]

Bailey’s ‘competitive’ edge

April 4, 2008

As a supporter, I hate the word ‘competitive.’ Too often it stands in place of ‘we lost but we’re glad it wasn’t a thrashing.’ For struggling teams it is a word that qualifies a loss but for Champion teams it’s about winning and losing (not by how much.) The Demons face Geelong this weekend. Perhaps this is why Melbourne coach Dean Bailey is setting his supporters up for a ‘competitive’ loss. I counted him using the word 27 times in his press conference at the MCG on Thursday. Don’t believe me? Watch the video. [Read more]

REB’s Rubbish: Round 3

April 3, 2008

The cynic in me is wondering why this particular round is marketed as ‘Rivalry Round’. I thought all of the other teams were our rivals but there you go. How many St Kilda fans rush out to grab that fixture anxiously trying to work out when they will get to play their arch rivals the Western Bulldogs? How many Hawks fans are wondering why they aren’t playing the Cats or the Bombers this week? Yes, I’m confused as well but you probably worked that out by looking at my tips. [Read more]

Round 3 Teams

April 3, 2008

BRENDAN Goddard will play his first game since suffering a knee injury early in 2007. After a promising pre-season playing for St Kilda’s VFL team, the Casey Scorpians, Goddard will come back into the Saints side this week with some game time under his belt. [Read more]

Footywrap: Round 2

April 1, 2008

Paul is back into the Footywrap lineup this week after three weeks in the UK and just in time for Wayne Carey’s tell-all interview on Enough Rope. We discuss this and the revelation from his father that Wayne is an ‘idiot’ and ask why he chose Andrew Denton to bare his soul to. Watch a clip from the show and make up your own mind. Also in the gun are the Demons who have lost their first two games by an average losing margin of 99.5. Paul Gardiner has challenged anyone who thinks they can do a better job than the current administrators to put their hand up. Our Paul thinks this is a bad idea as the same suggestion bought Billy Joel unstuck a few years ago. [Read more]
