Young Magpies defender Nathan Brown has this week been recognised for his consistent efforts of shutting down some of the leagues biggest and best forwards and has been rewarded with this weeks Rising Star nomination. The 19-year-old again impressed on the weekend playing on West Coasts Josh Kennedy in the Magpies 100-point victory and restricting him to a single goal at the same time as racking up a career high 13 disposals including 4 tackles. After spending the 2007 season playing for Williamstown in the VFL Brown made his stunning debut in round one of this year and was given the task of Fremantles Matthew Pavlich first up. He immediately gained respect from the football community after beating Pavlich on the day and has since played on other big names such as Brisbanes Jonathan Brown and Matthew Richardson from Richmond. Brown joins this years other nominations Bachar Houli (Essendon), Josh Hill (Western Bulldogs), Rhys Palmer (Fremantle), Kieren Jack (Sydney), Ben McKinley (West Coast), Cyril Rioli (Hawthorn), Austin Wonaeamirri (Melbourne), Kurt Tippett (Adelaide) and Garrick Ibbotson (Fremantle) as contenders for the 2008 AFL Rising Star.
