Richmond has won its seventh game for the season beating the Bombers by four points in a thriller at the MCG on Saturday winning 16.12.108 to 15.14.104. First Quarter: Scores: Richmond: 5 Goals 2 Behinds 32 Essendon: 3 Goals 2 Behinds 20 Goal Kickers: Kane Johnson 1 Brent Deledio 1 Mitch Morton 2.2 Troy Simmonds 1 Matthew Lloyd 1 David Hille 1 Jarod Atkinson 1 This Quarters Best: Richmond: Deledio Tuck Morton Essendon: Watson Stanton Dyson Quarter Summary: Was a good contest from both sides in the first term, after both Lucas and Riewoldt missed gettable goals in the first few minutes, Johnson was able to capitalise from a poor free kick and put through the first goal of the game. Shortly after, Deledio nailed a goal from fifty after a great one on one mark. Essendon were able to reply shortly after with a goal to Lloyd after a strong lead. But again, another poor free kick resulted in a Richmond goal, this time to Morton. At this stage, Essendon were struggling to penetrate deep into the forward fifty and both Lloyd and Lucas were not keeping their feet in marking contests. Another free kick to Morton resulted in a shot but it was touched by the man on the mark. Essendon finally started to link up and a long kick into the square resulted in a mark and goal to Hille but Simmonds was able to reply himself with a contested mark and goal to Richmond. Morton again got lose up forward and dribbled a goal to have 2 goals 2 behinds at quarter time. Welsh had to go off with the blood rule but not long after, Atkinson was able to goal after a long kick in from Neagle. Cotchin very quiet early, Dyson getting a bit for Essendon. Second Quarter: Scores: Richmond: 11 Goals 5 Behinds 71 Essendon: 7 Goals 5 Behinds 47 Goal Kickers: Kane Johnson 1 Brent Deledio 3 Mitch Morton 4 Troy Simmonds 1 Joel Bowden 1 Richard Tambling 1 Matthew Lloyd 1 David Hille 1 Jarod Atkinson 1 Leroy Jetta 1 Scott Lucas 1 Brent Stanton 2 This Quarters Best: Richmond: Deledio Brown Morton Essendon: Watson Lonergan Stanton Quarter Summary: Richmond hit the ground running in the second quarter with Bowden kicking a nice goal from range on an angle. Watson started well again with the same form in the first quarter. Neagle seems to be finding it further up the ground than other weeks. During a small period Essendon looked to have the run of it, Lloyd took a great one on one, two grab mark but was unable to convert but not long after, Jetta roved a spillage and snapped an excellent goal. But after this small period, Richmond got back on top, Foley was able to break clear of the centre and found Tambling who converted. Although Hille looked to be getting on top in the ruck, Essendons skills were letting them down and then Morton was able to read a long kick in the best and marked + goaled for his third. This was followed by a good pack mark from Deledio who kicked another. Up the other end, Lucas was able to get what would be close to his first touch of the game, a great pack mark and goal. At this stage, Monfries left the field with an ankle injury and joined Welsh on the bench. Deledio kicked his third of the match after a strong lead but then Essendon were able to hit back with 2 goals to Stanton after good work from Lucas and Jetta. The good work was undone though when Morton was able to pick up a half-volley, swung around and snapped his 4th of the match to give Richmond a 4 goal lead at half time. Cotchin has still barely touched the ball, havent seen much of Pattison either. While for Essendon, Peverill is getting owned by Brown and someone has to stop Morton. Hopefully Monfries will come back on and also Welsh, who hasnt been on since he copped a hip + boot studs to the face and left with blood rule.

They came out full of running and Jetta was rewarded for some excellent roving by kicking a goal. Essendon continued to be on top in the clearances and Lonergan countinued his form with a good mark, played on and goaled. Essendon were starting to man up well and didnt allow Richmond to find any lose targets coming out of defense. Bad news for Essendon with Neagle off with an injury but the upside is a great goal from fifty out to Reimers for 3 in a row. Another clearance to Essendon and a good mark results in a goal to Lucas who has improved every quarter. Essendon are really moving the ball well through the centre and the pressure they are applying across their half forwrd libe has resulted in a roving goal to Slattery. Essendon have moved Laycock forward and he has looked dangerous without delivering anything. Lucas has kicked a conteder for goal of the year with a kick out of the air, 6 goals straight to the Bombers. Morton has had to move further up the ground to get a touch this quarter, and Jetta has been moved up the ground and is having an impact. The umpires obvoiusly dont want Richmond to go goaless and Hughes to go touchless as they give him a kick pretty much right in front 30 out and he kicks truely to have 4 point game at 3/4 time. McPhee was one to lift in the third after not having much impact but the worry for Essendon is that it appears Neagle + Monfries are gone for the game, while Welsh may also not be back.

Essendon were rewarded for their determination with Lloyd taking a mark 20m out and kicking truely. Polo should have had the quick answer but his decision making was terrible but was fortunate that the spillage found Brown who snapped for a nice goal. Brown then followed it up with another goal after Riewoldt made a contest, two in a row for Brown. Richmond have snapped into gear with Simmonds and Foley both lifting but Essendon were still able to reply through Laycock. The big men are working hard with Hille covering alot of ground but Simmonds was able to hurt them on the scoreboard with a goal from 50 out. Then Brown was able to kick his third of the term after marking 40 out on the boundary, playing on using the umpire to shepperd and putting it through. Side note: Pattison and White are hacks. Essendon are now unable to find targets coming out of defense. Some selfish acts from both Reimers and Lloyd. Reimers going for a torpedo from outside 50 and Lloyd trying to kick it over his head. Play then slowed but was still only 9 pts. Stanton not giving up though, ran almost the full length of the ground and kicked long to Laycock but was unable to convert. Laycock had another chance just on 50 but again, couldnt convert. Agian, Stanton was running hard and got on the end of a Lloyd pass but could not convert. Bowden then rushed a couple of behinds as the clock wound down for a 4 point Richmond win.

Nathan Brown (RIC) 2. Jobe Watson (ESS) 1. Nathan Foley (RIC) Match Summary: A scrappy match early turned into a good match with Richmond coming away with a 4 pt win. The first half was pretty even, with Richmond just on top due to the efforts of Morton who kicked 4 first half goals, and Deledio who was dominant forward as well. It was after half time that Essendon found their running, kicking numerous goals in the third and keeping Richmond to just the one goal. Although they were in front at three quarter time, it looked as though they might run out of legs with Welsh, Neagle and Monfries all to play no part of the final term. Essendon though didnt read the script and came out hard early in the last but after that, Richmond were on top for the rest of the game. In a brilliant individual display, Nathan Brown kicked 3 last quarter goals, while Nathan Foley and Troy Simmonds lifted to give Richmond the win. Promising Signs: Essendon: Dyson played the best game I have seen him play, may finally start to deliver. Laycock found a bit of the ball late. Mal Michael played well, keeping Riewoldt quiet. Richmond: Morton and Deledio were great early on. Foley found a bit of it once Welsh went off. A wins, a win I guess.
