Trade Week: Day one wrap up

Day one of trade week got under way at Telstra Dome today and as per usual no trades had been officially lodged by today’s cut-off time. There may not have been any trades but still plenty of news to report. Today clubs met at Telstra Dome in Melbourne and took place in short 15 minute meetings where clubs could enquire about players of interest or put players on the trade table. North Melbourne dropped a bombshell today when they officially put 203cm ruckman Hamish McIntosh on the trade table but have no received any offers for the 24-year-old. Corey Jones and Daniel Harris have also attracted interest from clubs but no offers have been presented to the Roos. It seems that Ryan O’Keefe is officially on the trade table after the club’s manager of player personnel Stuart Maxfield confirmed O’Keefe was seeking a trade to a Melbourne club. “Ryan’s indicated to us that he wants to seek a trade in Melbourne,” Maxfield said. “Look we’ve still got a great relationship with Ryan, we’ve just gone through the process today of seeing what can come about but to be honest no-one’s really come (up) with anything formal at the moment.” Carlton have pulled out of the race for O’Keefe after Carlton CEO stated the club simply couldn’t get a deal done. It appears no progress has been made between Fremantle and Carlton regarding the Robert Warnock trade. Carlton have publicly offered the Dockers pick 24 but Fremantle officials claimed they would not accept the offer demanding a better deal. The Bulldogs camp is on the lookout for a tall forward and have expressed interest in Tim Boyle from the Hawks. The Dogs football manager James Fantasia said that some clubs had shown interest in midfielder Farren Ray although are disappointed there wasn’t more interest shown by other clubs. Being contracted until the end of ’09 Ray may remain the Whitten Oval next season if a trade can’t be worked out. Brent Prismall, the last of the Cats unsigned players, is attracting big offers from rival clubs despite Geelong still trying to convince the young midfielder to sign a new contract to keep him at Geelong. Port Adelaide won’t be handing over pick 4 for troubled Collingwood star Alan Didak despite publicly stating that their early picks would be on offer if the right deal came along. That concludes day one of trade week, clubs are no longer required to meet at Telstra Dome and can resume their discussions elsewhere.
