St Kilda has sacked Andrew Lovett just months after signing the troubled player to a 3 year contract. The decision to sack Lovett, effective immediately, comes after the news that the 27-year-old was charged with one count of rape yesterday.

The club would not comment on the charge that was laid against Lovett at this afternoon press conference stating the decision was not based on whether or not Lovett is innocent or guilty of the charge. They ruled the decision was made due to Lovetts failure to comply with the standards expected behavioral conduct. Specifically relating to Lovetts training commitments and his failure to contact the club officials in a situation where he should have done so. Last trade period Essendon put Lovett on the trade table after a number of disciplinary issues, he was traded to St Kilda for their first round pick.
