Phil Davis of the Adelaide Crows has today signaled his intentions to become a GWS Giants player in 2012 and beyond, making him the first uncontracted player to join the AFL’s newest franchise.
The 20-year-old told the club and his teammates of his decision on Tuesday morning.
Davis managed just 3 games this season before a shoulder injury ruled him out for the the remainder of 2011.
In a press release on the Crows website Football Operations Manager Phil Harper said the club did everything in it’s powers to try and keep the first round draft pick in Crows colours.
“The club is extremely disappointed to lose a 20-year old player who was a first round draft pick with outstanding leadership potential.” Phil Harper said on afl.com.au
“The club recognises Phil’s honesty in coming forward this morning to inform his teammates of his decision, soon after he made it on the weekend.
“To lose another centre half back after the loss to Gold Coast of Nathan Bock last year is certainly not ideal. I can ensure all our members and supporters that we did everything in our powers to get Phil to stay, including putting forward an offer well in excess of any offer to an 18 game player in the club’s history.”
Davis will hold a press conference later this morning.

Other than Robert Warnock i can’t see the blue baggers taking part in many other trades this year. Hopefully we get the Warnock trade out of the way quickly unlike Judd last season.

Mick,
That is not a rumour. It is an observation followed by an expression of hope.
I have heard that Marc Murphy is furious at the amount of $$$ thrown at Fevola. Not sure this will amount to him moving on but he is apparently unsigned for next year.

The rumour i heard a while ago regarding Murphy was that his old man is his manager and they are not budging with the figure they want. That wasn’t from any reliable source though. The word i have been getting for the past couple of months from the more reliable sources is that he has been close to signing, i’m not sure why he hasnt though.
I’m hoping its got something to do with luring a big recruit to the club and they’re holding off so they can work out the best way to do his contract (frontloading his pay now so we can afford to keep all our guns in years from now)
