After a number of coach sackings this season there was plenty of talk about who would end up where but no one expected Fremantle coach Mark Harvey to be sacked effective immediately.

To throw a spanner into the works, St Kilda coach Ross Lyon has stepped down and is set to take over the Dockers job.

Lyon, who has taken the Saints into the last two Grand Finals turned down a four year deal and is expected to face the media on Friday to announce his move to Fremantle.

Mark Harvey has been at the Dockers since 2007, but was told he would not be the coach next year despite having one year left on his contract. The 46 year old former Bomber failed to get his side into the finals, although the club suffered a heavy injury toll.

Saints legend and assistant coach Robert Harvey is expected to take over the helm while the club sorts out their next move.
