There were some pretty interesting AFL results after the opening round of the 2009 AFL season. While pleased with the win, Blues fans won’t be really sure of how their team is traveling because Richmond were just hopeless. Carlton’s game this weekend against the Lions will be a good indication of where they are at. For those fans of AFL betting, Brisbane is at 3.45 to the Blues’ 1.39. While Carlton do have the home ground advantage, the Lions are a lot better than those odds indicate.

Despite having home ground advantage, Sydney is at 3.3 to Hawthorn’s 1.42. With both teams losing their opening match, both will be desperate to open their account here and avoid falling in a 0-2 hole.

The AFL fixture has thrown up some more interesting Round 2 games. The pick of them would be Adelaide – St Kilda. The two has developed a healthy rivalry in recent times and this match has all the makings of a great one between two sides who won their opening games.

Two matches which feature teams that lost their opening game are Essendon-Fremantle and Western Bulldogs-North Melbourne.

Round 2 means it is still very early in the season. It is not until Rounds 5/6 that you can see which way most of the teams are heading. Even then, a team could go the other way but history shows that this is most likely not the case.
