AFL Betting has been in the news a bit this week with club insiders accused of giving away team information for friends/family to place on certain exotic betting markets. I’m not sure what the best way to fix this problem is but it’s possible we might see the end of exotic markets in the future which would be a shame but worth it to keep the integrity of the competition.

Now moving on to this weeks betting previews and tips…

This isn’t the greatest round of the season to be having a punt. Finding a winner shouldn’t be to hard but getting value for your best could be tricky.

According to the bookies this weeks match between North Melbourne and Sydney is the toughest one to pick. Personally I’m struggling to find any reason why to pick North Melbourne. Sydney have won 7 of the past 8 against North Melbourne. Looking at the Swans fixture this year and they have only lost to side who are in the top 4 with a notable draw against the Demons in round 1. North Melbourne on the other hand haven’t shown much and are coming off a loss to Brisbane, handing them their first win of the season.

At $1.76 head-to-head the Swans are definitely the best value of the round.

The next game I want to look at is the other Saturday afternoon game where the Dockers will host St Kilda in Perth. I’m probably going to contradict what I said in the last game here with Fremantle being in much better current form than St Kilda. I can’t ignore the fact that the Saints have a current 6 game winning streak over the Dockers including the past two games they’ve played at Pattersons Stadium.

St Kilda don’t have great ruck stocks so the news of Sandilands to miss with ‘turf toe’ will certainly lessen the advantage. It’s far from a confident bet but take the Saints on the +9.5 line and hope they can get over the line of within a kick and a half.

I’m not putting this in my best bets but here’s a fact you might like to consider. Geelong hasn’t won a single game against any ‘new’ side when playing away at the oppositions home ground. In fact they have an appalling record in these games losing 0-5 by an average of 42 points.

The other bet I like is Collingwood to clear the 31.5 line. West Coast are playing great football and might show that they can take it up to them but if you follow anyone other then Collingwood you would have to be scared of how they overran the Crows last week and ended up clearing the 39.5 line.
