Once again I completely avoided having a bet last weekend and looking back on it I made the right decision with punters having a bad week in general with the number of big upsets the occurred.
This week I’m back into the swing of things with a few line bets that tickle my fancy.
First bet of the week is on Saturday afternoon when the Blues host Melbourne at the MCG. Melbourne have surprised most people this season having already knocked up 4 wins before the mid-season break and are no longer the easy beats of the competition. That said, I’m backing against them this week.
Since the Matthew Kreuzer Cup back in round 22 2007 Carlton have only met the Demons twice, convincingly beating them on both occasions. I’m not reading much into this statistic at all because both teams were well and truly at different stages of their development on those occasions. But the same can be said about now. While Melbourne are playing some good football this season I think the Blues will just be to good in most aspects of the game. I expect Carlton’s more experienced midfield to lead from the front and put the pressure on the Dees early on.
Tip: Carlton +19.5 at odds of $1.91 – Get on at Centrebet.com
My final bet for the round is on Sunday afternoon in the game between Hawthorn and Port Adelaide.
Port Adelaide’s record against the Hawks is an impressive one. In the last 8 times these two teams have met the Hawks have only managed to get on top of Port twice. Which is why I like the Port Adelaide line this week. Even in the Hawks 2008 Premiership season the Power made this weeks +18.5 line.
Port Adelaide may have given Richmond its first win for the season last week but with an extra days break over their opponents and a bit of fire in the belly I expect them to give a red hot crack against the Hawks who are apparently ‘back’ according to their supporters after an unconvincing 2-point win over the Swans last Sunday.
Tip: Port Adelaide +18.5 at odds of $1.91 – Get on at Centrebet.com
I don’t like to bet against Sydney at the SCG, so I’m not going to, but I do like the look of the Bombers this week. They don’t have a problem playing at the SCG having won their past 2 games at the venue. With Sydney’s injury concerns at the moment I’m sure the Dons fancy themselves as well. So while I’m not personally putting my hard earned on the Bombers this week I think it’s a decent bet. I’ll be tipping them that’s for sure!
My Multi of the week for round 11 isn’t very risky. St Kilda/Carlton/Collingwood all for the head2head win is paying $2.61 with Centrebet.
