Apologies for not providing tips last weekend, but be glad. I only managed 2 (and a half) tips last weekend so I cant imagine I would have gone much better on the punt. This week is the split round though and there’s a few games I fancy in the first weekend of the round.

There’s a couple of games I’m avoiding completely this week, the first being Carlton vs Fremantle. The Dockers look the goods but still not confident putting my hard earned on them away from Subiaco. The second game being North Melbourne vs Port Adelaide. I like North but they’re way to short for my liking.

Friday night at the G should be a ripper match between two old rivals in Essendon and Hawthorn. The Bombers have had the wood in the Hawks of late, winning the past 3 against them. The Hawks however have found some form and forced their way back into the top 8 and their team continues to get stronger with ket players returning from injury.

The Hawks are an intimidating side and their return to form has been on the back of them playing some ‘unsociable footy’. However the Bombers have pace, the kind of pace that can beat the best of teams on certain occasions.

I’m tipping a close game and I’m confident the young Bombers might rise to the occasion and put on a show and edge out the Hawks ending there 5 game winning streak and extending their streak over the Hawks.

Tip: Essendon +11.5 at odds of $1.91 – Get on at Centrebet.com

If one good thing came out of Richmond winning 2 games this season it’s that there reducing the line bet. Richmond went in as favourites last week and proved why, smashing the Eagles and handing Jack Riewoldt his first 10-goal haul. This week they travel to the Lions Den that is the Gabba.

The Lions might not be in form and are heading towards a bottom 8 finish for the season but I expect them to dismantle the Richmond side in front of a home crowd.

The Lions not only need to win, they need to win big.

Final game for the first week of the split round is over at Subiaco where the Eagles will host the Bulldogs.

West Coast were absolutely flogged against Richmond at the MCG last week, this should be enough to put me off risking any money on them. But the Eagles have won 4 of the past 5 against the Dogs including wins in the past two times they’ve met.

Despite losing their past 4 games I’m getting on the Eagles at the line, my upset of the round tip.

I wouldn’t do it if I were you but you could throw them all into a multi-bet for odds of $8.86.
