AFL Online would like to extend our thoughts and sympathy to the McCarthy family, the Port Adelaide Football Club, fans and friends of John McCarthy following the shocking news that came out of the US yesterday afternoon.

It is reported John McCarthy fell from a hotel building while on an end-of-season holiday in Las Vegas with some of his Port Adelaide teammates. Investigations into the incident continue.

The 22 year old moved to Adelaide from Melbourne after being recruited from Collingwood during the pre-season draft. In 2012 he played 21 games for the Power, kicking five goals.

Before becoming a well-loved member of the Port Adelaide football club, he began his AFL career in 2008, being scooped up by the Magpies in the 2007 National Draft. He played 39 career games and kicked a total of 15 goals.

It is an extremely sad time for everyone who knew and loved John McCarthy.

He will not be forgotten.
