Clement’s retirement shocks Pies

Collingwood veteran and vice-captain James Clement has shocked the club by announcing his retirement after the teams’ preliminary final loss to Geelong. His decision stunned the board and coaching staff who had no idea that the star backman had any plans of retirement. The 31 year old missed a large chunk of the 2007 season after tearing his calf in Round 6. He played just 13 out of a possible 25 games. Judd meets Carlton

To kick off his busy schedule whilst in Melbourne, Chris Judd today had a meeting with a surgeon and then began the process of meeting several Melbourne based clubs which will help Judd in making the decision on who he wishes to play for in 2008 and beyond. Carlton was first on the list and they went all out in their attempt to win Judd over. Chris met with Carlton president Richard Pratt at his Raheen mansion. He then met with his manager Paul Connors at the club and had a meeting in the board room with Greg Swann, Steven Icke and Brett Ratten. Harvey to go around again

St Kilda veteran, Robert Harvey, will embark on his 21st season after announcing that he will play on in 2008. It seemed that this year would be the 36 year old’s last season, being hampered by hamstring injuries but he is confident that he’s body will be able to cope with the physical nature of AFL for another year. After the retirements of veterans Fraser Gehrig and Andrew Thompson, Saints supporters will be pleased with Harvey’s announcment. Lucky Bombers, Unlucky Fans

I’ll admit that my beloved Bombers have been rather fortunate of late with some of the recent matches they have been able to come away from with victories. The second last placed team from last season have managed to be competitive throughout some hard fought contests to find themselves in winning positions. Despite the undeniable improvement of Essendon’s on-field performances the post-match focus (on more than one occasion) has been aimed at controversial umpiring interpretations that have been said to have assisted the Dons in getting the four points.
