Brogan & Johnson to contest

Dean Brogan of Port Adelaide and Steve Johnson of Geelong will contest their charges at the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night. Brogan last night was offered a one-match penalty for engaging in rough conduct against Essendon’s Andrew Lovett but faces the risk of missing two matches if he unsuccessfully contests the charge.

Brogan’s incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This drew five activation points, resulting in a level two offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction.

An early plea would have reduced the penalty by 25 per cent to 168.75 points and a one-match sanction.

Steve Johnson will contest the reprimand that was offered to him by the match review panel. Johnson was charged with a level two offence and 45 points towards his future record, for attempting to strike fellow Luke Hodge during last Friday night’s grand final replay against the Hawks.

Kade Simpson (reprimand), Simon Taylor (2 weeks) and Adam Goodes ($1950) have all accepted their sanctions.
