All across Australia, probably all across the globe, there are thousands of AFL SuperCoach (and DreamTeam) sides being registered and tweaked for season 2008. As with 2007, ‘One Week at a Time’ is again your home of SuperCoach. Hints, tips, advice, discussion, debate and opinions galore - just the way our readers and listeners like it. I have documented my current set of thoughts, the risks, sleepers, the youth, the injured, the overpriced and the value. However, I warn you to continue reading at your own risk. Conversely, if you do snaffle $30K for yourself as a result of the following, please feel free to fire some my way! [Read more]

That was clever: Brett Burton

March 3, 2008

We love a good screamer when we’re watching the footy on a Saturday night but it’s not to often that you expect to see one. Thats not the case when Brett ‘Birdman’ Burton is playing, i don’t know about anyone else but you can find yourself sitting on the edge of your chair as the ball gets bombed into the forward line with the Birdman waiting to do something clever just so you can yell out loud and wake up the family if Burton holds onto a screamer. In last weeks NAB Cup clash against the Hawks Burton did just that…Continue reading for the footage! [Read more]

Semi Finals POTW: Aaron Edwards

September 20, 2007

North Melbourne went into the game after being punished in a 106 point loss to Geelong the week beforehand. With the odds against them as took on Hawthorn they needed to come out with all guns firing and one man certainly did. Early into the first quarter it was clear the Kangaroos meant business and were on course to cause an upset. However in years from now if anyone will remember the game it won’t be because of the upset caused by the Roos, it will be remembered as the day Edwards took a screamer over his own team-mate in Drew Petrie. Unfortunately it won’t be remembered as mark of the year, due to sponsorship by Toyota marks taken in the finals series are ineligible for mark of the year because the winner is chosen before Grand Final day. Aaron Edwards will remember it as the day he got robbed of a car… [Read more]

The Landkreuzer

August 28, 2007

It has been another long winter in Victoria this year. The flu has once again hit people hard and now it has put a stop to race meetings Australia wide with the Equine Flu getting past quarantine. Don’t worry though, the weather has started to warm and spring is only days away. Unfortunately with Spring comes another illness. Whilst not deadly it has the ability to keep die hard AFL fans stuck in front of the telly and not out in the yard mowing the lawns. That’s right it’s Finals Fever. This year Victorians can get excited about having some real contenders to take out this year’s Premiership. With teams still battling it out to make the 8 you would think all attention would be on them. [Read more]

Round 19 POTW: Cam Mooney

August 13, 2007

Geelong gun Cameron Mooney shows off his skills with this freak soccer-like snap from the boundary line to hit team mate Joel Selwood on the chest directly infront of goals. At first it looked like pot luck but when watching the replay you will notice he takes a quick look over his shoulder before kicking the ball. Well done to Mooney on this fantastic piece of play this is just one of the reasons why Geelong are so good this season. [Read more]

Round 17 POTW: Brendan Fevola

July 29, 2007

Brendan Fevola is well known for being a superstar footballer who continues to let himself down on and off the field with his poor attitude and behaviour. However in this weeks Play of The Week we get to see some of Fev’s brilliance. I couldn’t split two of his goals so i added them both! Brendan can lift a team by his own actions and on Saturday against the Saint’s he did just that, kicking 3 early first quarter goals. People constantly criticize Fevola for dropping his head and not putting in the effort if thing aren’t going his way but these two goals certainly show what he can achieve when he does put in the hard yards and apply pressure. Congratulations Brendan on two fantastic goal’s who knows you might just win a brand new Toyota for your effort! Continue reading for the video… [Read more]

Round 16 POTW: Michael Newton

July 23, 2007

Young gun Michael Newton launches himself above team mate and captain David Neitz to take a spectacular pack mark which i consider i shoe in for Mark of The Year. In only his 4th game he has already secured a memory he will never forget, not to mention a brand new Toyota in his driveway at the end of September! The only real mark that can contest to this is Mark McVeigh’s screamer in Round 3 against Carlton which was paid however under the new hand in the back interpretation should have been deemed illegal. Also the courageous Jonathan Brown mark will be considered but in my opinion as an AFL fan we love a screamer and that’s why Newton will bag the 2007 AFL Mark of The Year. [Read more]

Round 15 POTW: Danyle Pearce

July 16, 2007

This week’s Play of The Week goes to Port young gun Danyle Pearce for his potential Goal of The Year he kicked against West Coast on the weekend. Port Adelaide already had the game under control so they were basically in party mode when Pearce ‘dances’ around several West Coast players and runs into the 50 and kicks a wonderful goal. It seems as if we are getting goal of the year contenders every week now so it will be a tough competition when it comes down to picking a winner at the end of the year. Congratulations to Danyle Pearce for winning this weeks POTW! [Read more]

Round 14 POTW: Dale Thomas

July 8, 2007

This week’s Play of The Week goes to the almost goal by Dale Thomas. The Magpies had fought back in the last quarter and led the Saints by three points. They had the momentum but there was still five minutes on the board and the Saints needed a win. It took this single bit of brilliance from young gun Dale Thomas to put the Pies ahead two goals and basically seal the match. The supporters were jumping out of their seats with the thought that the Pies were going to win and they had just witnessed the goal of the year. Little did they know the boundary umpire had called it out of bounds, as the supporters started to realize the fact it wasn’t actually a goal a loud moan of boo’s surround the ground. For the record only minutes later Dale Thomas received a free kick and slotted the goal, it may not have been as special but it got the result and the pies went on to win by 9 points. Continue reading for footage of the almost goal! [Read more]
