Essendon is adamant they will not rush Winderlich back into the side until his body is ready, despite the fact that his progress has been slower than expected. Working with fitness and medical staff and taking it one step at a time, the club is hoping to see Winderlich take to the ground in the second half of the season, if all goes well over the next month or so.

While his teammates make the journey to Darwin for the match on Sunday, Cooney will undergo treatment to reduce the swelling. However, he won’t be the only Bulldog spending this weekend in the sidelines. Tom Williams is due to begin a six week training plan as part of his comeback from a recent shoulder reconstruction, meanwhile Christian Howard is working hard to return after missing the past six weeks with a knee injury he sustained in the first round this year.

Meanwhile, teammate Joel Corey was hit with a $900 sanction. Corey has accepted the fine as punishment for an obscene gesture he made during the match on Saturday.

Sam Fisher was selected in the Saints team to play against the Blues on Monday afternoon. Fisher has been recovering from a hamstring injury from last weekend. Today St Kilda made a decision that it is not willing to risk his injury getting worse if he plays. Tom Ledger has been named as Fisher’s replacement in round seven.

Ablett has missed the last two games due to a knee injury, but will be a welcome addition to the Sun’s line-up against Greater Western Sydney in Canberra.

David Swallow didn’t training on Wednesday, however he made up for it this morning and is set to return after recovering from an ankle injury. In fact, Shane O’Bree, the assistant coach of the Suns has revealed that Swallow sometimes has to be told not to train too hard.

Rischitelli is also a strong starter against the Giants this round, after missing two weeks with an ankle injury.  His teammates Matt Shaw, Danny Stanley and Jeremy Taylor will act as emergencies, obviously hoping that Ablett, Swallow and Rischitelli make a noteworthy return to the team.

O’hAilpin, 29, was making his debut for the Giants against his former club in Carlton when he landed badly during a ruck contest in the third quarter and had to be subbed out of the game.

The Irishman kicked two goals for the Giants in the time he spent on the field including one after the quarter time siren and the first goal of the second quarter which saw the Giants trail by just 4 points at the time.

GWS will meet Gold Coast for the very first time on Saturday afternoon and while both teams have shown promise recently it’s hard to go past the Suns at $1.40 to beat the Giants at $2.95.
