REB’s Rubbish: Round 8

May 16, 2008

The football season starts for the second time with the break coming at a handy time for clubs such as the injury ravaged Saints but other clubs such as Freo would probably have preferred to have a kick last week. My dodgy tipping form returned with a vengeance last week with Richmond somehow managing to lose that game against those darned Saints. There’s some very close matches on this week so not a bad week to get 6, 5 might even be the par score for the round. [Read more]

REB’s Rubbish: Round 7

May 2, 2008

On a bit of a roll in recent weeks as back to back eights has me on 38 points for the year (36 winners only of course) but according to some that makes me one week closer to a complete and utter wipeout. Looking at this round there are a couple of jagged rocks that could yet sink the good ship tipster. Will the Eagles fire up seeing Juddy return to the West in a Carlton jumper? Can the Power win in Victoria without the Chadmeister? [Read more]

REB’s Rubbish: Round 5

April 18, 2008

We all got bent over and spanked last week by the so called predicatable round. This week I’ll be out to do better or more probably pick up another five winners. My monumentally mediocre tipping thus far this year has netted me the severly underwhelming tally of 22 winners. It’s a good thing I’m on a diet cos I won’t be getting the chocolates with those numbers. [Read more]

REB’s Rubbish: Round 4

April 10, 2008

So after three rounds what have we learn’t this season? The Cats, while not firing on all cylinders are atop the ladder and it is the Hawks as expected and the Bullies perhaps unexpectedly leading the challengers. Collingwood, Adelaide and Sydney remain strong and the Saints are about the place without dominating. North, Brisbane, Essendon and Port have played some reasonable footy at times with mixed results and Melbourne, Richmond and Carlton remain basket cases. For me the big surprise is West Coast. I didn’t dare to believe that our nemesis from the West could be so toothless. With Cox on one foot and Ashley Hansen leading the ‘hide and seek’ medal voting so far this season they look decidedly suspect. In 1979 Kiss’ Dynasty album stayed in the charts for well over 52 weeks and this has in fact outlasted the Eagles dynasty. Shame that. [Read more]

REB’s Rubbish: Round 3

April 3, 2008

The cynic in me is wondering why this particular round is marketed as ‘Rivalry Round’. I thought all of the other teams were our rivals but there you go. How many St Kilda fans rush out to grab that fixture anxiously trying to work out when they will get to play their arch rivals the Western Bulldogs? How many Hawks fans are wondering why they aren’t playing the Cats or the Bombers this week? Yes, I’m confused as well but you probably worked that out by looking at my tips. [Read more]

REB’s Rubbish: Round 2

March 27, 2008

Five winners last week and looking in reasonable shape too until last year’s nemesis Essendon bobbed up in the last match with a stunning upset victory over the Roos. These early rounds are tough for the average tipster to negotiate and it’s even harder for me ha ha. [Read more]

REB’s Rubbish: Round 1

March 22, 2008

Welcome to another year of REB’s rubbish. Before you read on please be aware that last season I was the modern equivalent of Lou Richard’s famous ‘kiss of death’ so please take these selections with a healthy
dose of Sodium Chloride. [Read more]

REB’s 2008 Supercoach bargains

February 28, 2008

For those of you who are entering a Supercoach Dream Team league you’ll soon find out the ten million dollar salary cap is as tight as Dolly Parton’s bra. The proven players in the league are very expensive and you can only fit so many of them into your team. [Read more]

2008 Crystal Ball - OWAAT Edition

February 15, 2008

Well it’s back. The new-look, much talked about, much debated, much criticised and much enjoyed famous OWAAT Crystal Ball series. The 2008 AFL Premiership Season brings with it very few certainties, like all AFL seasons. However, one thing is for certain, the predicted Crystal Ball rankings will be, like my universities mathematics exam questions, far from correct! Nevertheless, despite the massive blow to my slender credibility and the overall frivolity of it all, my football head is again firmly planted back on the chopping block. And as always there is the opportunity for you to have your say also. So get comfortable, prepare to be shocked, get ready to laugh out loud and mock, it’s time to re-launch this puppy. [Read more]

2008 Predicitons

February 14, 2008

Every year on the AFL Online forums a thread starts up about predicting the big events in the given year. I don’t think anyone takes it seriously but when you look back over it at the end of the year you tend to find there are always some big surprises that no one would have predicted, the ones that everyone managed to predict and then you get the ones which you might giggle about at the start of the year but when it turns out true you don’t know whether they’re a genius, lucky or so one eyed they picked their favorite player and hoped it would come true.
