
Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium is unique to Australian Rules Football due to the fact that it’s the only stadium in that can host AFL games under a roof, meaning near perfect conditions all year round. The roof is retractable meaning the stadium management can choose to open or close the roof depending on the weather conditions.
Etihad Stadium is one of, if not the best stadium in Australia for football fans who attend games. It’s hard to find a bad seat in the stadium and each section of the stadium has advantages. If you’re on level one you feel closer to the action than ever before. Level 2 premium seating is great all-round, you aren’t to far away from the action yet still get a good view of the entire ground. Level 3 is often available for general admission tickets in most games held at Etihad Stadium and is great because you get a good view of how each game unfolds.
AFL matches are the main event at Etihad Stadium, the 53,000 seat venue makes it ideal to host games between the lesser supported Melbourne teams and teams from interstate. Etihad Stadium also hosts events such as concerts, A-League & NRL matches, International soccer and even International cricket matches.
Etihad Stadium is located in the Docklands district and right on the edge of Melbourne’s CBD. LaTrobe St, Wurundjeri Way, Bourke Street and Harbour Esplanade surround the stadium.
Getting public transport to Etihad Stadium couldn’t get any easier. Southern Cross is the major railway station and transport hub of Melbourne and is located less than a 2 minute walk from the Stadium. Most passenger trains will pass through Southern Cross Station including training going through the city loop.
Buses from across the state also arrive and depart from the bus terminal at Southern Cross Station. If you’re coming from interstate, buses operate regularly between Melbourne Airport and Southern Cross Station. Once you arrive at Southern Cross take the pedestrian bridge to Etihad Stadium.
La Trobe Street and Harbour Esplanade have tram lines running right past Etihad Stadium.Being so close to Melbourne’s CBD it’s only a short walk for trams stopping on Spencer Street, Bourke Street and Collins Street.
Etihad Stadium has 2,500 car parks directly underneath the playing surface and can be purchased for a flat rate of $25 on event days.
Street parking around Etihad Stadium is very restricted.
High rise secure parking lots are within walking distance of Etihad Stadium and often have flat rate parking over weekends when games are played. Taking this option can also help you avoid the traffic leaving Etihad Stadium.
