With only a few more sleeps to go before the 2016 AFL Season kicks off I have chosen 6 ‘sure things’ for the 2016 season. Some are quite bold, others quite obvious but whether I’m right or wrong is yet to be seen.

Richmond wont win a final

Richmond have boldly re-signed their coach Damien Hardwick until the end of 2018. A move that could backfire given the club is still yet to win a final under Hardwick. Expect the pain to continue with Richmond failing to make the top 4 this season. The club could implode if it’s one of the new franchise clubs that knock them out.

Josh Kennedy (WCE) will win the Coleman Medal

Barring injury and any long suspension I just can’t see any other forward coming close this season. I thought Jeremy Cameron was an outside chance before copping a 4 week ban.

Gary Ablett will be back to his best

Back to his best might be a stretch but I have no doubt Gary Ablett will quickly remind everyone why he’s considering to be one of, if not the greatest player of all time.

Essendon saga will continue to steal headlines

Essendon will again be making headlines for all the wrong reasons this year. Expect ongoing reports that banned player X will be seeking a new club and banned play Y is seeking legal advice.

Carlton will suck. Hard.

Carlton fans like myself already know it’s going to be a long season. Expect a week-by-week play from media ‘experts’ of how former Carlton forwards, now on other lists, are kicking more than the entire Carlton side.

West Coast will be minor premiers

I’m not prepared to call the Grand Final result just yet but expect West Coast to be sitting comfortably on top following the home and away season. I expect them to be near on impossible to beat in Perth and almost as tough away from home.
