Bomber David Zaharakis has been recovering from a torn tendon in his quadriceps for the past month. Today Essendon coach James Hird announced that it is unlikely Zaharakis will return for at least another four weeks due to the nature of the injury and continued soreness he has been experiencing. The club explains its cautious approach to bringing back their Best and Fairest player saying it wants to ensure he is in shape to play the last few matches of the season and don’t want to risk him with his injury in its current state.
On a more positive note, his teammate Jason Winderlich, who is on his way back from a hamstring injury that has bothered him all season is likely to return through the VFL this weekend. Hird said it will probably be the first of two or three matches ahead of Winderlich regaining his place in the senior side. Winderlich is obviously anxious to play for the Bombers having been sidelined since he sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in Round four of season 2011.
