Cat Joel Selwood and Lion Andrew Raines exchanged questionable strikes during their Saturday night meeting at the Gabba this weekend. This week both Selwood and Raines are likely to face the Match Review Panel for their feisty battle.
First to get the claws out was Raine who gave Selwood a high tackle during a contest for the ball. Tension heighten by the wet conditions Selwood struck Raine who then retaliated which left Selwood on the ground late in the final quarter.
Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss commented after the match saying although Raines had a tough night, he completed the job he had been asked to do. Raines and Selwood weren’t the only players to feel the tension. Geelong’s Steve Johnson and Brisbane’s Ben Hudson exchanged some heated words while Cat Allen Christensen shoved Lion Daniel Merrett to the ground during the second quarter.
At the final siren, the scoreboard stood Lions 4.17 (41) to Cats 12.7 (79) with Geelong defeating the Brisbane Lions by 38 points.
