Geelong star Steve Johnson will up to a month of footy after going in for knee surgery on Tuesday.
The 29 year old was already missing the round one clash against Hawthorn on Easter Monday after being suspended for one match on the back of striking Fremantle’s Hayden Ballantyne during the NAB Cup.
Johnson had been suffering knee soreness for the past week and the Cats medical team decided it was best to get the surgery out of the way.
Geelong physio Mike Snelling revealed that it was only a very minor problem but were thinking of the long term.
“We think that by having the knee cleaned up he will be fully fit when he starts to play, rather than the possibility that the knee will slowly deteriorate over time forcing the surgery later in the year.” he told the media earlier today.
The Cats are hoping the star will only miss a month, but are unsure on exact dates.
