After being hit by a tram just outside his Armadale home on Saturday night, Richmond defender Graham Polak has woken from his induced coma in the intensive care unit at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
It has been reported that Polak has actually stepped out of his hospital bed to go to the toilet and take a shower, despite his head and brain injuries.
The 24 year old suffered bruising of the brain and doctors fought to keep any swelling down which could have caused further damage. It’s a great sign that Polak managed to climb out of bed, but doctors say that he may not be out of the woods yet and said it was too early to tell if he could suffer any permanant brain damage.
The news has hit the Richmond Football Club hard, especially players Cleve Hughes and Jordan McMahon who were with Polak on the night of the incident.
