Setanta OhAilpin’s season could be over before it’s even begun with scans today confirming that the GWS forward ruptured his ACL in Sunday’s 67-point loss to Carlton.

O’hAilpin, 29, was making his debut for the Giants against his former club in Carlton when he landed badly during a ruck contest in the third quarter and had to be subbed out of the game.

The Irishman kicked two goals for the Giants in the time he spent on the field including one after the quarter time siren and the first goal of the second quarter which saw the Giants trail by just 4 points at the time.

Carlton fans clapped O’hAilpin as he left the field in a show of support for the former Blue.

GWS will this week decide what path to take with O’hAilpin but the tradition surgery would see him miss the remainder of 2012 and possibly the start of 2013 season.

GWS will host Gold Coast in Canberra on Saturday afternoon as they look to register their first win in the Giants short history.

GWS Giants are paying $2.95 to beat Gold Coast this week.
