Over the pre-season we have often heard two questions whenever Brendan Fevola’s name is mentioned. The first being how will Carlton score goals and the second being how will Fevola and Brown fit in the one forward line. In tonight’s 32 point victory over a more than competitive Eagles side filled Lions supporters with excitement.
The pair kicked 8 goals between them, which is a decent output in itself, however when you consider they had 18 shots on goal between them, there is plenty of room for improvement. Fevola himself had 10 scoring shots, yet only managed 3 goals. The highlight of Fevola’s game being a magnificent goal he put through after kicking the sherrin off the ground on the most difficult of angles.
The Lions debutantes will of coarse steal the attention from what was a good match. The final scoreboard doesn’t reflect the closeness of the match, in fact the scores were level heading into the final quarter. The Lions would eventually kick away with a seven goal final term.
The Eagles actually led the match for the majority of time, only conceding in the 4th term. Josh Kennedy looked good up forward while Daniel Kerr and Adam Selwood starred in the midfield. Andrew Embley and Patrick McGinnity were both impressive.
Despite the win there was some bad news for the Lions. Jed Adcock limped off the ground with an ankle injury and former swan Amon Buchanan broke a thumb. Matt Maguire was feared to have pulled a hamstring but later returned to the field.
