Hawthorn have continued it’s good form coming off round 1 with a 15 point win over Fremantle at Subiaco Oval on Saturday night. Hawthorn controlled the game for most of the match apart from letting a near 6 goal lead during the third quarter drop to under 2 goals before the three quarter time break. Hawthorn then kicked away again in the final quarter before the Dockers slammed home the last four goals of the match but fell short by 15 points at the final siren.
Sam Mitchell was again brilliant in the midfield with another best on ground performance. Youngsters Travis Tuck, Cyril Rioli and Clinton Young were also very good through the middle. Buddy Franklin and Jarrad Roughead both kicked 4 goals up forward.
Rhys Palmer and Chris Mayne debuted for the Dockers after Harvey was criticized last week for not playing any young players. Palmer racked up 22 possessions and a goal while Mayne kicked two goals.
The only downside for Hawthorn were the injuries to Dew, Ladson and Young. Dew will miss 4 to 6 weeks with a bad hamstring while Young and Ladson will be closely monitored during the week but should only be out for a week or two maximum.
