Fremantle’s Rhys Palmer has this morning been rewarded with a Rising Star nomination for his outstanding performance in his first two games of football at the highest level.
Palmer was a standout in Fremantle’s win in the high profile ‘derby’ that is played between the two West Australian clubs. The 19-year-old midfielder was picked up with Fremantle’s first draft pick in the 2007 draft, seventh overall.
In his debut match against Hawthorn Palmer racked up 23 possessions and a goal but had nine errors on his stat sheet. Palmer turned his error count right around in round three and was one of only three players on the day not to have an error to his name. Rhys ended the day with 24 disposals including 4 tackles and 5 clearances.
Palmer debuted in Fremantle’s round two lose to Hawthorn at Subiaco after Mark Harvey was criticized for not injecting any youth in their round one match against Collingwood.
