The Match Review Panel has given Andrew Raines of the Brisbane Lions a three-match ban for a level four incident involving Raines and Geelong captain Joel Selwood during the Cats 38 point win at the Gabba on Saturday night. Raines may choose to appeal the suspension which could be reduced to a one week ban.

However, upon further review Selwood‘s initial strike on Raines which triggered the altercation was dismissed as not forceful enough to be punishable.

Raines has escaped charge for an earlier contact with Selwood during the match. The loose ball contest in which Selwood was hit in the head by Raines was not found to carry any weight.
