Looking to the weekend ahead there are some absolute crackers making tipsters nervous after a topsy-turvy round 1 with several surprise results.
Tonight we have Richmond hosting St Kilda at the MCG, a game that most would think Richmond would win comfortably given last weeks results.
I’m not ready to write off the Saints yet though. Too often we see sides put in below par performances in round 1 only to bounce back the following week. But what draws me to the Saints this week is the record between these two sides. It’s impossible to ignore.
Last season Richmond got the better of St Kilda for the first time since 2003. To their credit the Tigers did break their losing streak but it wasn’t a convincing margin, just 8 points at the final siren.
For this reason I’m more than happy to take St Kilda at the +17.5 line.
The next game I like is Port Adelaide at home against GWS. It’s going to be an emotional day with the club remembering their mate John McCarthy. Carrying emotion into a game can work both ways but after being embarrassed by the Giants last season I don’t think they’ll let it happen again.
Port Adelaide should clear the -34.5 point line this week.
I’m also leaning towards West Coast to defeat Hawthorn at home but I would like to see more of the Eagles before having a bet given their injury list at the moment.
St Kilda +17.5 @ $1.92
Port Adelaide -34.5 @ $1.92
St Kilda +17.5, Port Adelaide -34.5, Sydney H2H, Essendon H2H @ $4.37
First Goal Scorer: Jack Riewoldt @ $8.5
