Round 8 is ahead of us and what better way to start the round off than Geelong vs. Collingwood at the MCG on a Friday night. I won’t be including this game in my best bets but with the Cats shortening in value the Pies might be worth a punt. Jarryd Blair has kicked a number of first goals for the Pies this year so he’s my exotic bet of the round.

It’s hard to ignore a couple of past records going in to Round 8 and the first game I’ll be looking at is Saturday afternoons match between North Melbourne and Melbourne. These teams are level at $1.92 each. Both teams are coming off thumping’s last week, although the Demons weren’t on the receiving end of one, the blew Adelaide out of the water late in their game. North Melbourne fans were however expected a thrashing from Geelong at Skilled Stadium.
What stands out for me is the fact that Melbourne has never defeated North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium, they have a 8 game losing streak at the venue against North Melbourne.
Up until last week Melbourne weren’t playing good football, coach Dean Bailey was under the pump. The loss of Both Jamar and Grimes will definitely hurt the Demons, get on the $1.92 odds for North Melbourne.
The next game I like this week is on Saturday night at the Gabba. Backing against Essendon has burned me already this year but I’m going to give it one more shot. What I like about this game is the fact that Essendon haven’t won at the Gabba since 2001. They’re obviously playing some inspired football under coach James Hird but some statistics are hard to ignore. Things couldn’t get much worse for Brisbane losing to the Gold coast Suns last week but they were competitive, which isn’t saying much, but most of their losses this season have been competitive.
I really like the +31.5 line for the Lions. They’ve only lost by more than that margin once this season. If you’re game you could get the line plus put some spare change on Brisbane H2H paying $5.10.
I’m going to put the Western Bulldogs in my multi for the week due to the fact the Bulldogs haven’t lost to Richmond since early 2005.
