Once again we have underestimated the Swans coming into season 2012. It seems we say it every season yet they continue to sneak under the radar living up in Sydney and with the Giants in their debut season they have gone unnoticed even more so this year.
But a big win over the one of the flag favourites in Hawthorn will give them the respect they deserve.
Do you think Sydney are a serious threat for the 2012 Premiership? Comment below!
They sit defeatless after 5 rounds and there’s no reason why they couldn’t win there next 5 as well.
The Swans will not only make the top 8 for the 8th time in a decade (only missing the finals in 2002 and 2009) they look set to make the top 4 with a cosy fixture which will see them play most of the best sides in Sydney.
The continued improvement of the Swans growing midfield and the emergence of the now elite Josh Kennedy could lead this side to Premiership glory in 2012.
Adam Goodes isn’t getting any younger, but isn’t getting any worse either. He quite literally won the game for the Swans on the weekend.
Ted Richards in defense could very well find his way into the All Australian side for the first time.
Shane Mumford will only boost their side when he returns in 3-4 weeks.
While many will now wake up to the Swans a serious Premiership contender others will continue to underrate them but you can be guaranteed no one in the AFL industry will take them lightly.
Sportingbet still has the Swans at $11 to win the flag. With Adelaide (SCG), Richmond (MCG), Melbourne (SCG), St Kilda (Etihad) and the Western Bulldogs (SCG) take the $11 odds now because they won’t be around for much longer.
