It’s official, Marc Murphy will captain Carlton in 2013.
The announcement was made on Wednesday morning in front of a full room of media and former club captains, including Chris Judd, who stood down from captaincy on at the end of last season.
Murphy, 25, will lead the Blues along with Andrew Carrazzo and Kade Simpson who have both been named vice-captains.
The trio were all competing for the captaincy over the pre-season with all given a chance to captain a NAB Cup match.
“It’s a great honour … I’ve been involved in the leadership group since my second year at the group, it’s been a massive aspiration to one day captain the club,” Murphy said.
“I’m not one of the most vocal blokes at the club but I think I lead by example and give 100 per cent week-in, week-out.”
Murphy is expected to lead the club out when they face Brisbane in Friday nights NAB Cup Grand Final. In 2005 Murphy could have joined the Lions via father/son as his father played over 200 games for Fitzroy. Murphy knocked back the Lions offer to join the Blues at pick #1 in the 2005 AFL Draft.
